Erdoğan was never a 'radical Islamist' he was always on the moderate wing of Turkish Islamists in the 1990s, who were not that radical to begin with. His only remotely radical policy (abandoned over 10 years ago) was withdrawing Turkey from NATO, which tells you what this fuss about 'radical Islamists' is really about.
